DADU, Nov 7: A group of members of the Dadu Taluka Council have said they will table a no-confidence motion against the taluka nazim after Eid for his alleged involvement in corruption.
Talking to journalists at the press club after holding a protest here on Sunday, council members Abdul Majeed Memon, Ghulam Mohammad Solangi, Abdul Rehman, Mohammad Nawaz, Ghulam Nabi Babbar, Ghulam Hyder Jatoi, Raj Kumar and Zulfiqar Chandio demanded that an inquiry should be initiated against the nazim and officials of the Taluka Municipal Administration for allegedly embezzling development funds of three years.
They said due to wrong policies of the taluka nazim, Rs30 million development projects, including a bus terminal, Sabzi Mandi, stadium and two bridges, had not been initiated for three years.
They accused Nazim Syed Zafar Ali Shah of misappropriating Rs4.6 million which had been paid to him by the Sui Southern Gas Company for repairing roads after installation of gas pipelines in the city. They said the roads had not been repaired.
The members further alleged that the nazim had also embezzled money collected as property tax and other taxes.
They said officials of the TMA were showing Rs110,000 as oil expenses of two tractors while the tractors were not functioning.
BODIES FOUND: Police on Sunday found a body of a 60-year-old man lying at the Sehwan railway station.
The body was handed over to the Edhi Centre for burial. The name of the deceased could not be ascertained.
Meanwhile, the body of a four-year-old boy, Abdul Jabbar, was recovered from a drain near the railway station on Saturday night.
The boy had been missing for two days. Relatives of the boy criticized authorities concerned for not covering open manholes in the area.
KIDNAPPED: A 19-year-old girl, Farzana, was kidnapped by four persons in the Mehar town here on Saturday night.
Police on the complaint of Mumtaz Mastoi, father of the girl, registered an FIR against Misri Mastoi, Nawaz, Wazir and Arbab Khatoon.
PROTEST: A group of people held a protest outside the press club here on Sunday against local agents of the Mobilink mobile phone company for charging higher connection fees from people in the Dadu city.
They were led by Dr Arbab Ali Soomro and Dr Rasool Bux Soomro. Talking to journalists at the press club, they said the company had started operation in the city four days ago.
They said the local agents were charging Rs1,200 to Rs1,500 per connection against the actual fee of Rs300.
They appealed to higher authorities of Mobilink and the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority to take notice of the matter.
