NAWABSHAH, Nov 8: Talks between the Primary Teachers' Association leaders and the EDO of education department on ending class boycott by primary teachers failed here on Monday.

The teachers continued the boycott and as a result, almost all the primary schools in the district remained closed for fourth day and thousands of students continued to suffer.

The talks were held between the EDO and the PTA leaders at the District Nazim House in the presence of Nazim Faryal Talpur.

Sources said that EDO accepted most of the demands made by the PTA but the talks failed on one point, reinstatement of a sacked teacher, Naheed Qureshi.

Confirming this, EDO Dr Rafiq Ahmed Siddiqi said that Ms Qureshi had been sacked with other teachers by an Army Monitoring Team.

He alleged that some teachers wanted to encash Rs147,000 difference bill of Ms Qureshi and for that reason, they were pressurizing him.

He claimed that most of the schools in the district had remained open on Monday and warned that if the PTA continued protest, strict disciplinary action might be taken against its leaders.

The city president of the PTA Syed Mastaan Shah said that talks had failed due to the attitude of the EDO. He added that the district nazim had requested them to end the class boycott but they refused and decided to continue the boycott till Eid.

The district nazim could not be contacted as she had left the city for an Iftar dinner.

Meanwhile, parents of primary students have called upon the district administration to settle the dispute so that their children could continue studies.
