MIANWALI, Nov 9: Daudkhel is the second largest wholesale drug market where opium, charas and heroin powders are available in almost pure quality. Drug peddlers across the province have nexus with the local stockists who meet their demands.

The place is notorious for the drug trade after Kamarmishani, which has the largest business.

According to the business rules, the supplier receives cash after the safe delivery of drugs to the buyers. Drugs from tribal areas reach here at Kamarmishani and Daudkhel through hilly and river routs. Professional men-carriers, mostly Afghan refugees, are involved in trafficking of drugs a large number of which is consumed locally.

Every second house in Daudkhel and its suburbs is either indulged in drug business or harbouring an addict or two.

In order to increase sale, the drug peddlers allure addicts to sell half gram heroin packets on their behalf and get one gram powder free after selling 10 packets. The price of half gram packet is Rs30 while the one gram packet is available for Rs50. The addicts of other parts of the district get the heroin packets at the same price, but these packets contain adulterated powder. Old addicts inject heroin directly in their blood.

Adulterated powder is very much harmful to be injected in the body. This is one of the reasons that old addicts from different parts of the province come here to buy pure quality of power. As charas is not considered an abhorrent in society nor regarded a police case, it is being used here like any thing.

The government has declared death sentence for drug smugglers and peddlers, but the cases of awarding punishment are few and far between. Ironically, the drug trade is very profitable and many influential people are into it. More shameful is the fact that the police allegedly get their share.

In an incident the other day, Daudkhel police arrested a peddler with 2.5 kilograms of charas and 700 grams of heroin power. He was booked under section 9C in which he could get capital punishment.

Reports said the Musakhel Circle DSP received information from the rival group that Matiullah, son of Abdul Hameed, had got a fresh consignment of drug. The DSP, along with Daudkhel SHO Abdul Razzaq, raided the peddler's hideout and arrested him with the contraband.
