GUJRANWALA, Nov 10: The Gujranwala Electricity Power Company will establish four new grid stations and install as many transformers to ensure smooth flow of power supply in the region.

This was stated by Gepco Chief Executive Saifullah Khalid while briefing Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool on the plans in store, during his visit to his office here on Wednesday.

He informed the governor that land for the construction of two new grid stations was not available in the region. The governor directed the district administration to provide the required land for this purpose after removing all the hurdles.

The company, he said, had saved Rs705 million in addition to collecting Rs41 billions through 101 per cent recovery. He said Gepco had capacity of providing power supply to 15.05 million domestic consumers, 2.33 million commercial and 41,131 industrial units. He also said the company electrified 250 villages during the current fiscal.

The governor expressed his satisfaction over the performance of the company and asked it to keep up the performance.

Earlier, the governor visited the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited regional office where general-manager Muhammad Anwar gave him briefing about the performance of his company and competition of other organizations.

He told the governor that subscribers were being provided better facilities, especially in far-flung areas.

During his visit to the regional office of the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited, he was informed that the numbers of connections in district was 161,000, including 3,200 commercial and 490 industrial.

He said 10,000 new connections would be provided following laying of 150 kilometre-long new lines at a cost of Rs91 million during the current fiscal.

Khalid Maqbool also monitored the official record and received applications from people for which he issued on-the-spot directives.

Passport Office Assistant-Director Shamshad Ali Khan informed the governor during his visit that 150 passport books were being issued daily.

The governor also visited the Cantonment to see the Corps Commander, Lt-Gen Muhammad Sabir.
