HYDERABAD, Nov 11: The City Taluka Council on Wednesday adopted a resolution to construct a city shopping centre at its present building.

The council authorized the taluka nazim to persuade the builder who had offered the highest bid to increase the donation amount from Rs55 million to Rs85 million and the annual rent amount from Rs1.85 million to Rs2.4 million.

The council passed another resolution moved by Qari Niaz Ahmad, calling upon Nadra and the ministry of interior to accept certificates of union councils for issuance of Computerized National Identity Cards to married women, instead of demanding birth certificates. Convener Abdul Qadeer Naghar adjourned the session sine die.

PROTEST: Employees of the City Taluka Council on Thursday observed a pen-down strike for one hour in protest against non-payment of their October salaries. The employees also held a demonstration.

Speaking on the occasion, Ghulam Mohammad Qureshi and other leaders of the employees warned the taluka municipal administration that if their salaries were not paid immediately, they would observe a complete strike.

EYE CAMP: The United Memon Jamaat will organize its five-day 13th annual free eye camp in Hala from Nov 21 to 25.

This was announced by the Hala chapter general-secretary of the Jamaat, Allah Bachayo Memon, here on Thursday

He said patients would also be given free food and glasses. He asked the patients to get their names registered.

SHT: The Sindhi Hari Tehrik at its central committee meeting held here on Thursday condemned the arrest of Thatta Hari Tehrik leaders Ayub Bitiyar, Punoo Bitiyar, Siddiq Bitiyar by the Bathoro police in what it called false cases.

The meeting alleged that the leaders were being tortured at the insistence of the Shirazi group.

It regretted that bandits and murderers were roaming about freely but peasant leaders were being harassed and implicated in false cases.

The meeting also criticized the jirga system and said the government of Gen Pervez Musharraf had created a parallel judicial system in Sindh.
