GUJRANWALA, Nov 18: Three children died of cholera while eight were in serious condition at the DHQ Hospital here on Thursday.

In all 400 people, including women and children, were infected with the disease at Thery Sansi locality. Those dead were identified as Misbah (10), Fazeelat (2) and Rehmat (10).

Meanwhile, an emergency has been declared at the DHQ Hospital while DHO Dr Saeedullah Khan has set up a four-day camp in the locality to provide treatment to the affected residents. No one is being allowed to enter the locality.

It is learnt that cholera might have been broken out due to the contamination of the drinking water whose samples have been sent for examination.

It is pertinent to mention that the Punjab food minister belongs to the affected area.
