MINGORA, Nov 20: The district council Swat has criticized the provincial government for what it called interference in the affairs of local bodies.

Speaking at a district council meeting here on Saturday, the members hoped they would complete their tenure, saying any attempt by the provincial government to dissolve the local governments would be resisted.

They also resented the delay in provision of funds meant for the annual development programme to complete the uplift schemes.

District Coordination Officer Swat Shah Hussain Afridi on the occasion clarified that the entire responsibility rested with the tehsil municipal authority, which failed to do its duty timely.

The nazims also raised the issue of non-supply of Sui gas to many areas of Swat and asked for solution to the problem. The district nazim Swat Asfandyar Amir Zeb assured the house that the federal minister for petroleum and natural resources would soon visit the district and solve the problems.

He said: "We do not believe in hollow slogans and want to adopt solid policies for people's welfare".
