HYDERABAD, Nov 27: The Sindh government has withdrawn an arson case against Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain, Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz chairman Bashir Qureshi, Dr Imran Farooq, Nasreen Jalil, Dr Niaz Kalani and others.

The deputy district attorney filed an application before the first additional district and sessions judge, seeking withdrawal of the case regarding burning of a Wapda vehicle. The court disposed of the case.

The case was lodged by the B-section police on June 12, 2001 when the JSQM had called for a strike against death and arrest of its activists in Dadu and Sukkur during a protest rally against the Kalabagh dam on June 10. The MQM had supported the rally and subsequent strike.

Another case was lodged against the same accused and others at the same police station by a resident, Kaleem Mehmood, after his vehicle was burnt the same day. This case is pending in the court.
