SIALKOT, Dec 25: As the district governments were about to complete their three years tenure, the Sialkot government has failed to launch a public transport scheme for providing better facilities to the masses.

Nazim Mian Naeem Javaid told reporters at his office here on Thursday that the district government has prepared a master plan and called bids for at least six times during the last three years through advertisement in the national dailies but, no party has yet shown interest.

Meanwhile, commuters complained that they were suffering due to the non availability of any transport by the government. They urged the provincial and district governments to provide them better transport facilities.

BRIDGES: The Nazim said the district government has planned to convert two bridges over the seasonal Aik Nullah into a dual carriage through the Citizens Community Boards (CCBs) at a cost of Rs17.5 million.

He said the work on the project would begin in January.

Mr Javaid said the district government has released Rs302 million for the early construction of Sialkot-Kingra Road which would link 60 border villages with the city.

He said a district government complex having seating capacity of 400 and a modern civic centre would be built here at a cost of Rs60 million.
