HYDERABAD, Feb 7: Students of the Sindh University staged a demonstration outside the local press club on Monday in protest against shortage of point buses.

Talking to newsmen, Waqas Ahmed, Fayaz Shah, Shaharyar and Waheed Shah said only three point buses were being run for students. They said there was need for at least 10 point buses between Latifabad and the campus for boys and girls.

They appealed to the vice-chancellor of the Sindh University to overcome the shortage so that students could reach the campus on time. They claimed that half of the students from the City area could not reach the university in Jamshoro because of poor transport facility.

JUP: Leaders of the district chapter of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan have expressed concern over increase in gas and petroleum prices.

In a joint statement issued here on Monday, the vice-president of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan, Mohammad Hussain Qureshi, Malik Yaseen Noorani, Sufi Abdul Karim and Maulana Ayaz Mehmood Rizvi said the raise had exposed the government's claims of self-reliance.

They said the rising inflation was harmful for the economy and cost of production was also increasing that would ultimately affect the people.

They wondered that while prices of petroleum products and oil were decreasing in the international market, the government had increased same for fourth time in two months.

The Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan leaders said that the rulers were least bothered about the poor living standard of people whose exploitation continued as well.
