KHAIRPUR, Feb 9: The government of Sindh, federal ministry of culture and the district government have jointly finalized a scheme for setting up a museum as well as for repair and maintenance of the Kot Diji Fort.

This was disclosed at a meeting held at the district nazim office here on Tuesday evening.

In the first phase of the scheme, an amount of Rs38.8 million will be utilized, for which the Sindh government will contribute Rs5 million and the district government Rs2 million.

The meeting was told that the material which would be used for restoration of the roofs, doors, walls, etc., of the fort would be examined through laboratory tests.

It was decided that the fort would be closed to the public to prevent further damage, and that immediate measures would also be taken for disposal of rain water accumulated in the fort.

The meeting was attended by District Nazim Nafisa Shah, DCO Rizwan Memon and Mohan Lal, representative of the ministry of culture.

DISTRICT COUNCIL: A meeting of the district council, after an interval of four months, was held here on Wednesday, during which members belonging to the Awam Dost Panel and the Khairpur Dost Panel exchanged hot words. No agenda was disposed of in the session that was marred by pandemonium and accusations.

Sagiyoon union council nazim Aijaz Bughio complained during the session chaired by Bibi Irshad Jilani that work had not been initiated on a proposed road scheme in his jurisdiction from the sugar cess fund.

He said that the road which was to be laid from Sarwar village up to the Mehmood Channa police station would connect 15 villages and as such was a priority.

When the EDO (roads) told the meeting that the district nazim had stopped the work, hot words were exchanged between him and Mr Bughio for about half an hour.

Mr Bughio alleged that the district nazim had stopped the construction work on political grounds as he had joined the Pakistan Muslim League (F).

Clarifying her position, District Nazim Nafisa Shah said that minutes of the meeting of the sugar cess committee were not announced till date, because of which, all tenders had been held illegal.
