BAHAWALPUR, Feb 9: A police conference of Bahawalpur and Multan ranges' officials held here on Wednesday sought army assistance for the maintenance of law and order during Muharram.

The conference was scheduled to be presided over by Punjab IG Saadatullah Khan, who could not reach here due to inclement weather. In his absence, Bahawalpur DIG Ghulam Haider Marth presided over the conference which was participated by nine DPOs of both the ranges.

Reviewing the Muharram arrangements, the senior officials decided to seek army's help for maintenance of peace in Multan. As regards other sensitive areas of Bahawalpur and Multan ranges, the conference approved a detailed contingency plan. It was also decided that the Punjab constabulary would be deployed in case of any eventuality.

MARRIAGE MEALS: The Punjab government has delegated powers to district, tehsil Nazims and some of the government officials to implement the supreme court's verdict on marriage meals.

Reports said the powers had been delegated to Nazims, DO (revenue), DDO (revenue), DO (labour), and DO (social welfare). In case of violation, these officials would file cases with the magistrates in all the districts.
