SAHIWAL, March 6: Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool has ordered an inquiry into the embezzlement of Rs0.8 million union council funds by the Nazim and others.

The Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment director-general has taken into his custody the union council record for conducting a probe into the allegation.

Some 12 councillors of Union Council No 45 had brought to Punjab governor's notice that Nazim Masood Ahmed Khan Mehmand had embezzled Rs0.7 million. They alleged that the Nazim had withdrawn the amount in the name of a contractor besides taking Rs90,000 in commission.

The complainant councillors are: Sanaur Rehman, Muhammad Shafiq, Niamat Ali, Muhammad Imran, Ashraf Qadir, Iqbal Ghari, Miss Iffat Rana, Shahbaz Rafiq Bhatti, Miss Shaheen Naaz, Afzal Islam, John Emanuel and Naib Nazim Shaukat Bhatti.

TWO KILLED: Two passengers were killed while 29 others sustained injuries on Sunday in an accident on Sahiwal-Lahore Road near Chak 132/9-L.

A speeding bus (LPT-8701), going to Lahore, overturned while taking a sharp turn. Robina of Mauza Rangshah, Pakpattan, and Iqbal of Basirpur died on way to Nishtar Hospital, Multan. Mansha of Faisalabad, Mubarik Ali of Gamber, Habib of Kassowal, Noor of Iqbal Nagar were admitted to the local DHQ Hospital. While six of the injured were shifted to Chichawatni THQ Hospital and 10 others to Nishtar Hospital, Multan.
