GUJRANWALA, March 2: The restoration of Grand Trunk Road between Gujranwala and Lahore has been approved by the authorities concerned, and work on it would start soon.
Sources revealed that the road would finally be constructed in three lanes for smooth flow of traffic and its management handed over to the Motorway Police. However, more immediate plans envisaged repairs on its Gujranwala-Lahore section.
The local chamber of commerce and industry and other segments of society had been sending memoranda to the National Highway and other government functionaries, urging them to construct the road which had developed potholes that caused fatal accidents and damage to vehicles.
POLICE CLAIM: The district police said 27 proclaimed offenders have been arrested and busted several gangs of dacoits and robbers during the last 24 hours.
District Police Officer Saud Aziz said at a briefing here on Sunday that 12 rifles, 12 guns, six revolvers, five pistols, two carbines, two Pump Actions and 200 rounds of ammunition besides looted goods including half a dozen stolen motorcycles had been recovered from their possession.
