ISLAMABAD, April 27: Dredging work on Gwadar Deep-Sea Port has commenced and is expected to be completed by 2006. According to a press release, this was informed in a meeting presided over by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz here on Wednesday to review the progress on Gwadar Deep-Sea Port.

Reviewing the progress with regard to construction of roads, the meeting was told that work on roads to link the port with different parts of the country would be expedited.

The meeting was informed that the Gwadar Airport was being upgraded, while work on the telecommunication network was also being expedited to link Gwadar with the rest of the country.

The meeting decided that work on special economic zones would be accelerated to attract investors and provide incentives to them for generating more employment opportunities. Similarly, it was decided that ancillary facilities as well as utilities would be made available in Gwadar on priority basis.

The prime minister directed that the Policy Board on Gwadar to hold meetings on monthly basis so that work on the port could be monitored and accelerated.
