SIALKOT, April 27: A paralyzed gang-rape victim and her family have appealed to Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and the Punjab IGP to provide them with security and ensure immediate arrest of ‘influential’ suspects. The victim, who is the mother of three, uses crutches as she suffered a paralysis on both legs.

According to the FIR (69/2005) lodged by the Pasrur city police station on the victim’s complaint on April 19, 2005, she was at her home at Muslim Colony along with her children on April 12 when seven armed men, including Kaka, Sifarish Ali, Shaaku and Attiq, came there and raped her one by one.

They also held up the children and took away Rs25,000 in cash and other valuables, she said. She added that she could not resist because of paralysis.

The woman told the journalists the other day that her family immediately reported the incident to the Pasrur city police and submitted an application for registration of a case, but the officials remained reluctant to proceed against the suspects.

Then the family approached Sialkot DCO Osama Mumtaz Raja, who directed the Pasrur police to register a case, she said, adding that a case was instituted after eight days of the incident. However, she said, the police had yet to arrest the ‘influential’ culprits.

Saying that the suspects were threatening the family with dire consequences, the ill-fated woman has urged the chief minister and the IGP to provide them with proper security.

When contacted, the DPO said special teams were conducting raids for the arrest of the suspects who would be tracked down soon. He said the victim and her family would be provided the security after they would formally submit an application.
