ISLAMABAD, April 28: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Interior has directed Director-General, National Police Bureau, Dr Shoaib Suddle, to conduct an investigation into criminal assaults on a teenage college girl by some ‘influential’ people and police officials in Sialkot.
The committee, which met at the Parliament House here on Thursday, also asked Dr Suddle to investigate into the murder of a first year student in Karachi allegedly by activists of an ethnic party.
The student, it has been alleged by a religious party, was killed after having being tortured.
Mr Suddle was told by the committee that strict action would be taken against the culprits in the light of his reports after he sought an assurance from the committee that the findings of his report would be implemented.
He said that the committee was empowered to take suo motu action in such cases and get the services of competent police officers to investigate into high profile cases. He urged the parliamentarians to exercise their powers to ensure justice to the people.
Chairman of the committee Sardar Talib Hussain Nakai said that the committee should take notice of incidents of injustice against vulnerable sections of society.
The meeting was attended by State Minister for Law Shahid Bhinder, MNAs Niaz Ahmed Jhakar, Nayyar Bokhari and Oniza Ehsan.
The committee sprung into action after media highlighted the plight of the 17-year-old Sialkot girl.
