ISLAMABAD, May 10: President Gen Pervez Musharraf stressed on Monday that settlement of the Kashmir dispute was necessary to bring harmony to South Asia.

The president told a British parliamentary delegation that continued engagement of the United Kingdom and the international community for the resolution of all issues between India and Pakistan was extremely important.

He briefed the visitors on government policies on terrorism, measures to curb extremism and the ongoing Madressah reforms. Gen Musharraf also discussed with the delegation the situation in Afghanistan and the steps taken to deal with foreign terrorists in South Waziristan.

Delegation leader Donald Anderson appreciated Pakistan's policies on terrorism and the forward movement in India-Pakistan relations. The delegation, comprising four Labour MPs, two Conservatives and one Liberal Democrat, also called on Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali and Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri.

The foreign minister explained to the delegation President Musharraf's vision of enlightened moderation. The delegation also met the Senate foreign relations committee led by its chairman Mushahid Hussain Sayed. -APP
