MINGORA, Nov 3: A number of candidates seeking admission in different departments of the University of Peshawar have alleged large scale irregularities in the admission process.

One Akhtar Gul told Dawn on Saturday that despite the fact he had fulfilled all the pre-requisites, he was denied admission in journalism department. “My first priority was to take admission in the journalism department as I am a working journalist.

Those who had obtained less marks than me were given admission. The authorities even did not bother to satisfy me about the merit criteria,” he complained.

Other candidates also expressed dissatisfaction over the admission process and termed it an “eye-wash” to make room for the blue-eyed boys. Some even vowed to move the court in this regard.

The candidates appealed to the NWFP governor, vice chancellor of the Peshawar University and the minister for education to look into the injustices meted out to the students.
