President Pervez Musharraf Saturday administered oath of office to Justice Sardar Mohammad Aslam as Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court.
The ceremony was attended by Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Muhammad Aslam Dogar, judges of the Supreme Court and members of the caretaker cabinet.
The court will comprise eight judges, besides the Chief Justice and is expected to be operational within this month.
Earlier, most of the cases of the area were dealt with by the Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court; the Islamabad High Court will function with similar powers and jurisdiction as that of the other High Courts in the country.
Secretary Law Justice Mohammad Raza Khan told APP that initially the Court will function at the site of the new Judicial Complex and rest of the eight judges will be appointed in consultation with the Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court and Chief Justice of Supreme Court.
