KARACHI - Vice Admiral Noman Bashir has been appointed as Commander Karachi with immediate effect.
He took over the charge from Rear Admiral Bakhtiar Mohsin who is proceeding to another important assignment.
As Commander Karachi, Vice Admiral Noman Bashir would be in charge of all naval establishments and shore-based units at Karachi and also head various organisations as ex officio President/Chairman.
Vice Admiral Noman Bashir was commissioned in Operations Branch of Pakistan Navy in June 1973. He served onboard various ships before joining naval aviation where he graduated as a helicopter pilot.
He commanded two aviation squadrons, a combat ship, and also held the key appointment of Commander Naval Aviation.
His staff appointments include Commodore Training Ashore and Director Naval Intelligence, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Operations) and Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Training) at Naval Headquarters.
He also served as General Manager (Operations) at Karachi Port Trust and Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Projects). His last appointment was Commander Pakistan Fleet.
The Admiral is a graduate of Joint Services Staff College, Armed Forces War College and Royal College of Defense Studies (UK).
In recognition of his meritorious services he was awarded Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military).
The change of command ceremony was held at Naval Unit BAHADUR this morning where the outgoing Commander Karachi formally handed over the Command to Vice Admiral Noman Bashir. On arrival at the venue, Vice Admiral Noman Bashir was presented guard of honour and introduced to the Principal Staff Officers and Commanding Officers of various PN units under command.
