You don`t have to fly to the dense, mysterious jungles of Africa or the Amazon. If you`re a wildlife freak and itching to experience a Safari, then the Safari Park on University Road, Karachi, is the place for you. All you have to do is buy a ticket to a Safari coach and you`ll be whisked off to the Safari Arena of the park where you will be able to witness animals in their near-to-natural setting.

It`s a thrill to be able to observe animals in groups without a cage to encumber their movement. From a variety of graceful deer skipping about to lazing llamas, lanky ostriches, lean ponies, brazen oxen and a plump hippo, you`ll see them all in different sections as the bus takes you on at a leisurely pace.

Admittedly, there are no lions feasting on deer or elephants stampeding through the wild outgrowth. Yet, after the 30-minute Safari is over, it is a treat to traipse through the rest of the Safari Park and feed the umpteen ducks in the large lake, gape at the zebras drinking water, enjoy the monkeys scampering, the peacocks and peahens preening and the jaguar baring his teeth, (thankfully from a cage).

You can even relish a round of miniature golf or seek a breathtaking view from a chair lift ride over the murky lake. The more adventurous of you can opt for the Go Aish section and taste the thrill of rides like the Flying Fox where you will be whisked over the lake tied to nothing but a taunt wire. Not to worry, they pad you up with safety gear and the adrenalin rush one feels swooping high in the air is unmatched. There is also an option of rock climbing and go carting.

Children have slides and swings and even a train ride through the park to delight in. The sprawling lush green lawns serve as an ideal picnic spot. Canteens scattered through the premises provide welcome refreshments and you will find the park a happening place to be, especially on weekends, with people belonging to assorted social strata.

So, if you`re looking for a family outing which will cater to all age groups, or dying to experience a field trip with your school buddies, which has fun and knowledge all wrapped into one, then, behold the Safari Park awaits you.
