Kalam files nomination

NEW DELHI, June 18: “Missile man” A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who is certain to become India’s next president, filed his nomination papers on Tuesday for next month’s contest, the Press Trust of India said.

Kalam, 71, was accompanied by Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, Home Minister L.K. Advani, Defence Minister George Fernandes and senior politicians of India’s ruling coalition when he went to submit his papers to parliamentary officials.—AFP
