KARACHI, Feb 16 Sialkot opened a nine-point lead in Group `B` of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship after storming to an innings and 20-run victory over Peshawar on Monday.
On the final day of what effectively became a three-day fixture after Friday`s opening day was washed out at the Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar, Sialkot bowlers, led by slow left-armer Nayyar Abbas and medium-pacer Naved Arif, claimed 14 Peshawar wickets to seal the victory.
Resuming their first innings at 120-6, Peshawar were dismissed for 179 with Nayyar taking 5-53. Following-on, the hosts were sent packing for 171 in the second innings despite fighting knocks by Mahfooz Sabri (89) and skipper Nauman Habib (50) as Naved captured 6-73.
Sialkot`s fifth win in eight matches took their tally to 51 points with Rawalpindi having 42 points in nine games.
Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) took three vital points after taking first innings lead over Habib Bank in the another rain-disrupted fixture at the KRL Stadium.
