DADU, Feb 19 Cases of the multi drug resistant (MDR) tuberculosis, the worst form of the otherwise controllable disease, in which 90 per cent patients die, have been reported from different parts of the district, according to Dr Abdul Hameed Soomro, in-charge of District TB Control Programme.

He said at a workshop on “Preventive Measures for TB” organised by Bridge Consultants Foundation, an NGO, in collaboration with district health department on Thursday that 1,400 of 2,424 TB patients were registered and cases of MDR were found in different parts of the district.

He said that MDR was dangerous for TB patients because there was no survival in 90 per cent cases. Half of MDR patients of TB died during treatment while the rest became dumb, deaf and blind, he said.

TB cases were reported from Sawaro, Wahi Pandhi and Drigh Bala area of Kachho and a few parts of katcha area of the district, he informed.

Dr Aziz Ahmed Chandio, district officer of administration and accounts, said that TB was on the increase as the health centres were situated in remote areas. If TB patients failed to complete eight-month course of medication, it would become increasingly difficult to control the disease, he said.

District Coordinator of Bridge Consultants Foundation Mohammad Ali Memon said that patients test would be conducted free of cost at the health centres.

ACCIDENT A man was killed and 12 others suffered injuries when a Mehar-bound pickup overturned near Dhamrah Wah on Thursday.

Asghar Gadehi died on the spot while Aijaz, Dilbar, Rustam and others suffered injuries and were taken to a Mehar hospital.
