NAWABSHAH, March 8 At least 1,000 youths, who have recently been recruited in police department for the Shaheed Benazirabad district, have not received their salary over the past five months.
The Sindh home department recently recruited thousands of constables in police department throughout the province, including about 1,000 in Shaheed Benazirabad district.
The successful candidates, after completing formalities like medical fitness test, have been posted at different police stations where they are performing their duty over the past five month.
A number of policemen, requesting anonymity, told Dawn that they were facing financial crisis due to non-payment of salary as they had to looking after their families for which they had obtained loans.
When contacted, District Accounts Officer Faiz Bhatti said that the accounts department had not received documents about the recruitment in police department.
He said that he would be able to release salaries after he received ban relaxation letter along with details of the number of new recruits.
Shaheed Benazirabad DPO Rukhsar Ahmed Khuhawar said that the approval of a SNE for new recruitment was in process and it would reach here in a fortnight after which it would be sent to the district accounts office for release of salaries.
Our Jacobabad correspondent adds A large number of candidates, who have applied for different posts in police department, took out a procession here on Sunday which ended outside the residence of Federal Health Minister Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani.
The protesters, carrying banners and placards and raising slogans, said that 200 jobless youths were waiting to get appointment orders.
The minister came out of the house and assured the protesters that they would be issued appointment orders in a week after which they dispersed.
