Cable thieves nabbed

The Model Colony police arrested 15 suspects red-handed while they were stealing an underground cable of the Pakistan Telecommunication Corporation (PTCL) near Pakistan Printing Press at Malir Halt.

The area SP, Javed Meher, told Dawn that the suspects also included four PTCL staffers, two of them lineman.

He said that the thieves had brought a tractor to pull out the 2,400-line cable and a truck. “They had already cut over 400 feet of the cable in 38 12-foot pieces when a police patrol reached there and nabbed them,” he added.

Three suspected bandits were arrested following a brief shootout with Pirabad police, who also seized three unlicensed pistols and six mobile phones from them.

The area SHO, Akhtar Shah Bangash, said that the suspects, identified as Fazal Rahim, Asghar and Ghulam Murtaza, were involved in several cases of mugging and mobile snatching.
