PESHAWAR, March 25 The NWFP Women Open Squash Tournament will be played from March 27-29 at the Hashim Khan Squash Complex with players from all districts across the province taking part.
This was stated by former world champion and Secretary of the NWFP Squash Association, Qamar Zaman while addressing a press conference here on Wednesday. The tournament is also carrying attractive trophies and cash prizes, Qamar added.
“We want to highlight positive things by involving both female and male players in healthy sports activities, particularly squash, in which the role of NWFP could not be denied,” Qamar remarked.
He said holding of various tournaments on regular basis would certainly highlight the soft image of the province. “Squash has a very limited game structure compared to cricket or hockey, so we can ensure security of all the players but it needs continuous efforts to hold international events in Pakistan,” Qamar asserted.
He paid rich tributes to outgoing president of the Pakistan Squash Federation, former Air Chief Marshal Tanveer Mehmood for his love of the game. “He provided all the facilities to the players but due to lack of interest, the PSF could not achieve the desired results,” Qamar added.
He also lauded the decision of PSF for providing financial support to the players to participate in the international events. —APP
