SUKKUR, March 27 Sukkur City taluka council session was adjourned on Friday amid uproar over a proposal of imposition of new taxes, which were termed anti-people by the members.

The meeting started under the chairmanship of convener Mohammad Rizwan Siddiqui. The taxation officer Agha Mutahir suggested imposing new taxes, which included wall chalking, cloth banners, sign boards, tax on big vehicles entering city limits, and parking fees from vehicles parked at clock tower roundabout.

On this Deedar Magsi, Abdul Majeed Malik, Abdul Baseer Pirzada, Mumtaz Shami, Haji Aijaz Memon and others while strongly criticizing the taluka nazim and administration, termed these taxes anti-people. They said that these taxes would directly affect common men, therefore, would never be allowed. Members from either side also expressed their reservations over issuing tenders for the recovery of water tax and said that earlier, this action had sparked an uproar in the house and demanded of the taluka council to collect water tax at its own, instead of giving contract to private company.

The meeting unanimously approved proposals about naming Military Road as Shaheed Benazir Bhutto road and Miani Road as Mufti Mohammad Hussain Qadri Road.
