HYDERABAD, June 29: The zoologists of the University of Sindh, Jamshoro, have found 15 to 34 million years old fossils of some body parts of dinosaurs/ mammals from Ganju Takar, Hyderabad, and some body parts of mammals from Bolahri area.

Prof Dr Mohammad Yousuf Shaikh of the zoology department of the university and his student, Prof Raees Ahmad Khanzada, of the Government Degree College, Latifabad, briefed Vice Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui about the recent discovery during his visit to the department here on Saturday.

The scholars are of the view that the body parts of dinosaurs/mammals have been discovered in Pakistan, particularly Sindh, for the first time.

They said three vertebrae, viz Synsacrum, Atlas, typical cervical vertebra, bones of unknown animals and a part of foot of dinosaurs were identified which possibly belonged to dinosaurs or mammals.

They said the work on these fossils was in progress and the age and name of the animals would be verified after proper scientific procedure and tests.

They further said the fossilization of soft tissue organs had never been recorded before and for the first time the fossils of mammalian hearts and a tongue had been recoded from the rocks of Sindh.

They said the fossils of the tongue and heart had been found from the Bolahri area of the province.

According to the zoologists, the fossils of the tongue resemble with human tongue.

Dr Shaikh and Prof Khanzada are busy in further research on the fossils and after due verification, the factual position would be announced.

The services of senior paleontologists and geologists would be acquired for further confirmation of these fossil records.
