Varsity basketball starts today

KARACHI, April 7 Four matches are on card for the opening day of the Inter-university basketball championship starting at the NED University on Wednesday.

University of Sciences and Technology Bannu take on University of Central Punjab in the opener at 8.30am. Hosts NED University are drawn to meet University of Sindh, Jamshoro, in the next at 10.30am.

In the next two matches, Greenwich University will be up against Lums Lahore and Iqra face University of Sargodha.

The winners will advance to the quarter-finals where they join defending champions University of Punjab, runners-up Karachi University, University of Peshawar and Balochistan University ITM Quetta who have got a bye.

The quarter-finals will be played on Thursday followed by semi-finals on Friday. The final and the third position playoff are fixed for Saturday.

The draws were finalised on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, four teams have pulled out of the event. They include City University Peshawar, International Islamic University Islamabad, Bahria University Islamabad and University of Agriculture Peshawar. —Sports Correspondent
