HARIPUR, July 2: The Haripur district council approved its revised budget of Rs14.193 million on Monday.
The council meeting, which resumed after a break of two days, was presided over by Naib Nazim Riaz Khan Jadoon. The revised budget was presented by District Nazim Raja Aamir Zaman on June 28.
The opposition members objected to the allocation of funds for different development schemes without the approval of the council. They alleged that the schemes had been approved in disregard to merit.
The meeting witnessed rumpus as the members rose from their chairs and shouted at each other. Some members tried to assault others and snatched the budget document from the convener.
Later, some 20 opposition members staged a walkout and took the budget document away.
However, when normalcy returned to the house, the revised budget was passed with a majority of votes.
The meeting approved 255 schemes, besides an allocation of Rs8.5 million for providing furniture and science equipment for different schools.
Opposition leader Chaudhry Shamshad advocate, talking to newsmen, criticized the role of the convener and the district Nazim and said it was violative of the Local Government Ordinance.
