HYDERABAD, April 21 Knowledge is the real empowerment and the students interested in politics during university education should understand that without education politics becomes meaningless, said Sindh University Vice-Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui at the inauguration of an exhibition organised by the department of economics.

He said some political groups of students had been trying to instigate students and using force to boycott classes for some days. But they did not know that the boycott of classes was an academic loss of the students, he said.

If students, he said, had any complaint against any one, they had the right to protest, but they had no right to disturb academic environment of the university. The vice-chancellor said the teachers were there to teach, educate and transform youth into good citizens so that they could serve their parents and society.

Mr Siddiqui said the university had accepted a challenge of conducting test of schoolteachers to select meritorious candidates.

Though it had been a difficult task, the university accepted the challenge and adopted all possible measures to conduct the test in a transparent manner, he said.

The vice-chancellor said Sindh had been facing the problem of quality education and accepting the challenge was aimed at improving school education in the province.

Later, he visited stalls exhibiting projects and modals developed by the students of economics and appreciated their efforts.

Students developed many projects reflecting current economic conditions of the country. Students of third and final year exhibited projects on capitalism, pyramid of capitalism system, Pakistans economy, an outline of Pakistans economic policy, GDP growth rate, poverty in Pakistan with its causes, the State Bank of Pakistan, major crops of Pakistan, inflation in Asia and coal resources in Pakistan.

Economics department chairperson Dr Murad Khatoon Panhwar briefed the vice-chancellor on projects displayed in the exhibition.

The vice-chancellor on this occasion also inaugurated the Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) desk established by the department.
