HYDERABAD, April 21 The district government would earmark budgetary provision for hosting livestock show in Hyderabad with the aim to improving the lot of rural people, said District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil. He said this on the second day of the show on Tuesday.

The district government organises two events every year - flower show and Mehfil-e-Mushaira - and now onwards a third event in the form of a horse and cattle show would also be arranged for which a stadium would be constructed for easy management and ensured participation of animal breeds, he said. The show, he added, would gradually be elevated to national level with an ensured cooperation of the district government.

Mr Jamil said that 95 per cent breeders in Sindh hold five or less than five cattle and were unaware of handling and getting maximum production of their animals.

The promotion of livestock sector would help generate income for rural people and also boost national economy, he said. Big cattle farming organisations were receiving full benefit from the government while small breeders were not aware of such facilities. These shows, he said, would go a long way in creating awareness among small farmers. District nazim was of the view that the knowledge of latest mechanism would efficiently exploit livestock resources. He called upon the management and experts of livestock department to arrange field visits and meetings between progressive and uneducated breeders.

Nazim termed the livestock show as a historic step which would prove a milestone for the development of this sector. He announced a prize of Rs200,000 for all breeder participants as token of encouragement and Rs10,000 each for winners of turban and moustaches competition.

Earlier, Mr Jamil witnessed the parade of buffalos, cows, bulls, camels, goats and special animals, champion in meat and milk production.

Horse and camel dances were also performed in addition to folk dances by artists of different parts of the province.

District Nazim visited different stalls and watched a documentary “Hyderabad on way to progress”.
