National basketball at Peshawar

LAHORE, July 4: National Inter-divisional basketball Grade A championship will be held at Peshawar in September with top eight divisions taking part, announced Pakistan Amateur Basketball Federation (PABF) Thursday.

“PABBF has reorganised its activity plan and special emphasis has been laid to involve divisions in basketball activities making them high standard teams to compete with stronger sides”, said Khalid Bashir, secretary, PABBF.

He said relegation and promotion system has been introduced in national divisional championship for demoting weaker sides of Grade A tournaments and encouraging winner of the Grade B competitions.

Khalid said Sargodha the winner of the inaugural Grade B championship which concluded recently at Sargodha and runners up Rawalpindi has secured berths for the Grade A championship along side Lahore, Multan, Hazara, Peshawar, Hyderabad and Faisalabad which are the top six teams of the previous championship.

“Promotion system will encourage top teams from little known divisions ultimately helping them to become champions “,he said.

He said the two team finishing at the bottom of the Grade A tournament will be relegated to the Grade B tournament.

Secretary PABBF while highlighting the activity programme said the National senior basketball championship will be played in Lahore in November with top teams fighting for glory.

He said departmental championship will be organised by PAF at Peshawar in October and Army, PAF, Navy, Police, Railways, Wapda, HBL, UGC, POF Wah and CHAP are its participation teams.—APP
