NAWABSHAH, May 13 A man died of sunstroke and several other victims of sunstroke approached different hospitals of Shaheed Benazirabad district on Wednesday when mercury touched record 49 degree Celsius.

After suffering from sunstroke, Hari Chand, son of Rano, was admitted to the medical ward of the People's Medical College Hospital here but could not survive.

Over 75 cases of gastroenteritis were reported in the PMCH and other hospitals on Wednesday and Tuesday night.

Nawabshah and adjoining areas -- including Sakrand, Qazi Ahmed, Daur, Bandhi, Jam Sahab and Doulatpur -- remained in the grip of heatwave. Trade activities almost remained suspended as Nawabshah city wore a deserted look.

The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company continued observing unannounced loadshedding of 12 hours which added to the misery of the people.

Our Larkana correspondent adds Temperature rose to 50 degree Celsius here on Wednesday, forcing the people to remain indoors at noon.

The local met office confirming the rise in temperature recalled that in 2,008 mercury had touched 52 degree Celsius in Larkana.

Unannounced power loadshedding further aggravated the situation. The residents of Rehmatpur, Allahabad and Dari said that the duration of loadshedding had increased from eight to 10 hours. In Leelabad power supply remained suspended for over nine hours.

On the other hand, three power transformers developed fault near Station Road, on Bakrani Road and Mohammedpur Mohalla due to power overload.
