RAWALPINDI, July 6: Tehsil Nazim Hamid Nawaz Raja has ordered an inquiry into the incomplete water project in Union Council Dhamma Syedan, spokesman for the Tehsil Municipal Administration told Dawn.
The project involving digging of tubewells and setting up of pipeline network was started about 10 years ago, but was left incomplete after embezzlement of funds.
An amount of Rs8.8 million was initially released for the project, but the work remained incomplete. The government, therefore, had to provide another Rs1.8 million to complete the project. The work has been restarted and the Tehsil Nazim hopes that it will be completed within a month, the spokesman said.
Taking serious notice of the water shortage in the area, the Nazim directed the officials concerned to make alternative arrangements for supplying water to the residents of Dhamma and Ali Town on emergency basis.
Talking to a delegation of the area residents, Mr Hamid said, apart from water supply, the main road in Ali Town would soon be completed.
He said the TMA would provide all possible facilities to the residents without any discrimination.
