RAWALPINDI, July 7: Educationists have asked the government to establish more colleges for boys in Rawalpindi to cater to the growing needs of increasing population.
Members of the Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association (PPLA) told Dawn that there were only four colleges for boys in the city. These colleges could not cater to the growing number of students, who wish to take admission in the colleges.
They termed it the education department’s apathy, who claim to be giving high priority to the promotion of education in the country.
The PPLA president, Mohammad Ilyas Qureshi, said: “Due to the shortage of government colleges, the students are compelled to take admission in expensive private institutions. On the other hand, there are 18 colleges for girls.
“This disparity in male-female colleges shows the lop-sided approach of the education authorities,” Mr Qureshi added.
The union leaders demanded of the education department that more male colleges be established to save the students from the low-standard educational institutions.
