ISLAMABAD The army claimed that 10 militants had been killed and one terrorist and three activists of the Tehrik Nifaz-i-Shariat Muhammadi arrested on Thursday and Friday. Fourteen security personnel, including an officer and five policemen, lost their lives and 14 suffered injuries in clashes with militants.
Troops seized 35 improvised explosive devices, three Thuraya sets, two FM transmitters, 500 detonators, three long-range antennas and a large number of pistols and rifles during a search operation in Tahirabad area of Mingora. On soldier was injured in the operation.
Security forces cleared areas between Chakesar valley and Shell Qaser, establishing links with Dakorak, north of Charbagh. One terrorist was arrested in Nat Kalakot.
In South Waziristan, three soldiers were killed when their convoy was attacked by an IED in Jandola.
Mardan ambush on Thursday
The army has released the name of the Captain who laid down his life on Thursday in a clash with militants at a place straddling the border between Buner and Mardan (reported in Friday's Dawn).
Captain Miraj of the Frontier Corps led the special operation group dispatched to the area after reports that militants had ambushed a convoy north of Rustam.
When troops reached the area, militants attacked them with an improvised explosive device. Troops returned fire, killing 10 attackers.
Capt Miraj and 10 security personnel, including five policemen, lost their lives in the ensuing battle. Twelve others were injured.
Capt Miraj was commissioned from PMA in armoured corps in 2003. He was a recipient of the Sword of Honour. He voluntarily joined the Frontier Corps and led several clashes with militants in Buner
Relief distribution
Ration and relief items were sent to Gurdawara Punja Sahib in Hassan Abdaal for 3,000 IDPs of the Sikh community from Swat.
Relief goods were also distributed among hundreds of off-camp IDPs in Akara Khattak, Jehagira, Raskekai, Manki, Sharif and Ziarat Khan Khela.
Fifty tons of ration were despatched to Khawazakhela, Madian, Kalam and Bahrian.
