CPNE meets secretary information

ISLAMABAD, July 12: Office-holders of the standing committee and members of the Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE) had a meeting with Syed Anwar Mahmood, Secretary Ministry of Information and Media Development.

According to a press release issued here on Friday, during the meeting, various laws relating to media were discussed.

They agreed that both the draft laws on freedom of information and defamation be examined by the CPNE and APNS. Subsequently, these would be discussed with the officials of the ministry of information and media development, and the law division.

The meeting was attended by Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami, president CPNE, Arif Nizami, Irshad Ahmed Haqqani, Zia Shahid, Altaf Hassan Qureshi, Jamil Athar, Mehmood-ur-Aziz, Pir Sufaid Shah, Khushnood Ali Khan, Fasih Iqbal, M.A. Zubairi, Azam Warraich, additional secretary ministry of law, Fazal-ur-Rehman Malik, director-general (IP) and Rai Riaz Hussain, director PID. —APP
