NEWPORT (Rhode Island), July 9 American Sam Querrey breezed to a 6-3, 6-2 win over Spain's Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo in the first round of the rain-plagued 500,000 ATP Hall of Fame Tennis Championships on Wednesday.
Third seeded Querrey advanced on a day when rains and then a lack of light forced a number of matches to be suspended.
Germany's Philipp Petzschner also advanced by beating Horacio Zeballos of Argentina, 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, and Nicolas Mahut, of France, beat American Amer Delic 6-4, 6-4.
Fifth-seeded Frenchman Arnaud Clement was upset by unseeded American Alex Bogomolov 1-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Other matches which were started but halted are seventh-seeded Kevin Kim leading France's Sebastien Grosjean 6-4 heading to the second set; Samuel Groth leads Ricardo Mello 7-5, 0-3.

WOZNIACKI INTO QUARTERS
BASTAD (Sweden) Top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki breezed past Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic 6-4, 6-2 on Wednesday to reach the Swedish Open quarter-finals.
The ninth-ranked Dane, who has not dropped a set in the clay-court tournament, will face Maria Kirilenko next. Kirilenko beat sixth-seeded Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-2, 6-3.
Gisela Dulko of Argentina outlasted Sorana Cirstea of Romania 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (5).

CORNET STUNNED
BUDAPEST (Hungary) Shahar Peer of Israel upset defending champion Alize Cornet of France in straight sets in the second round of the $220,000 Budapest GDF Suez Grand Prix in Budapest on Wednesday.
Peer jumped ahead 5-1 in the first set before losing her serve, but did not allow Cornet much of a comeback and quickly closed out the set 6-2. The second set was even more lopsided and ended 6-0.
