NAWABSHAH, July 10 The Chief Justice of Supreme Court, Justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry, paid a surprise visit to Shaheed Benazirabad district jail here on Friday.

The chief justice checked the record of the cases of under-trail prisoners and issued directives to judges concerned for speedy trials. He also enquired about the health, food and other facilities being provided to the prisoners. He visited a few barracks and met the prisoners and enquired about their grievances.

He ordered shifting of a UTP, Din Mohammad, to Sanghar district jail and directed the Shaheed Benazirabad district jail administration to arrange separate accommodation for prisoners suffering from hepatitis B and C.

The chief justice was accompanied by the Chief Justice of Federal Sharit Court, Justice Agha Rafiq Ahmed, the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court , Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Justice Mushir Alam, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, Justice Amir Hani Muslim, Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Shafqat Ali Shah Masoomi.

Earlier, at gymkhana, Razzaq Khaskheli, brother of a deceased policeman Saindad, came in front of Justice Chaudhry's vehicle, crying for justice.

The chief justice asked the driver to stop his vehicle so that he can talk to Razzaq.

He told the chief justice that the proceeding of his brother's murder case were slow. The chief justice issued directives to the judge concerned to expedite the proceedings.

Earlier, Justice Chaudhry arrived at Nawabshah airport from Islamabad where he was given a warm welcome by the legal fraternity. A delegation of the Civil Aviation Authority officials, hitherto working on contract basis, met the Chief Justice and thanked him for helping them in getting permanent jobs.
