KARACHI, July 14 Defending champion and top seed Aqeel Khan made a brisk start registering a crushing 6-1, 6-1 victory over local player Robin Das to propel into pre quarter-finals of the Pakistan Open Tennis Championship at Creek Club on Tuesday.

Aqeel, who returned from Manila in the morning where Pakistan suffered a 2-3 loss at the hands of the Philippines in Davis Cup Group two tie, had got a bye in the first round.

He is slated to meet the winner of Anas Khan and Vinod Das in the next encounter.

Meanwhile, eighth seed Faizan Khurram of Lahore who is rated among top juniors of the country became the first major casualty going down straight to unseeded Zia Hai in men's singles second round.

Hai caught the eye for creating an upset with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over his opponent.

Lahore's top seed Ushna Sohail became the first player to reach the ladies singles final beating Aneeta Pasha 6-1, 6-2. She faces the winner of last year's runner-up and second seed Saba Aziz and Islamabad's Sara Mansoor for the title clash.
