LAHORE, Aug 2 The Supreme Court judgement makes it obligatory for the government to initiate legal proceedings against Gen Pervez Musharraf (retired) for his unconstitutional steps, says Jamaat-i-Islami amir Syed Munawar Hasan.

In a statement on Sunday, he said the nation suffered a lot owing to the dictator's unlawful acts. He demanded that the government take practical steps against Musharraf failing which the nation would be justified to believe that the PPP government was 'protecting' him.

Mr Hasan questioned the legality of administration of oath to President Asif Ali Zardari by Abdul Hamid Dogar when the latter has been declared an unconstitutional chief justice. “Such anomalies in the verdict should be removed,” he said.

He said once a dictator was punished for abrogating the Constitution, no 'military adventurer' would dare to demolish the democratic setup in the country. “The dictators responsible for the breakup of the country and subversion of the constitution were never tried and even after their death, they were laid to rest with military honour,” he regretted.

Mr Hasan said the Jamaat's 'Go America Go movement' represented the will of the nation. He said according to a recent Gallup survey, 87 per cent of the Pakistanis were opposed to the US interference in their affairs.

SEMINAR Meanwhile, the JI has finalised arrangements for its national seminar being held at Mansoora on Aug 5.

Important national issues to be discussed include the US interference in the country, terrorist activities, military operation and its victims, drone attacks, Balochistan situation, and POL prices.

JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Tehrik-i-Insaaf chairman Imran Khan and APDM head Mahmud Khan Achakzai will be among the speakers.
