KHAIRPUR, Aug 18 All bazaars and markets remained closed here on Tuesday and tension continued to prevail in the wake of Monday's killing of Allama Ali Sher Hyderi, the chief patron of Ahl-i-Sunnat Wal Jamaat Pakistan and leader of the now defunct Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan.

Some traders tried to open their shops in the vegetable market in the morning, but a group of youngsters forced them to pull down shutters.

Police and Rangers kept patrolling roads between the main city and its suburb, Luqman, and they were also deployed at major roundabouts of the city.

Point-buses of the Shah Abdul Latif University were not seen on roads and classes were not conducted in any educational institution of the city.

Two activists of the SSP were shot dead in the Luqman area on Monday. One of them, Saeed Memon, was laid to rest on Monday night and the other, Zulfiqar Jalbani, on Tuesday.

In the latest development, Maulvi Sanaullah Janwari, the brother of slain Allama Hyderi, has been nominated as the new Mohtamum (principal) of Jamia Hydria Luqman.

Protests against the killing of Allama Hyderi were held also in some other cities of Sindh.

In Shahdadpur, all shops in Shahi Bazaar and Station Road areas remained closed and sticks-carrying protesters marched on some roads.

A procession was taken out and bazaars remained closed in Tharushah of Naushahro Feroze district.

In Dadu, activists of SSP staged a demonstration outside the press club.
