KHAIRPUR, July 19: The villagers belonging to seven villages held a sit-in on the National Highway at Shah Ladhani and blocked the road for an hour the other day in protest against the disconnection of the power supply to their villages.

The power supply to the villages of Tunia Pul, Phulo Dino Larik, Hussain Pir, Dogar, Pir Bux, Gharhi Pathan, and Hayat Shaikh in Khairpur Taluka was disconnected two days ago.

The protesters set tyres on fire on the road as a result of which traffic was blocked.

After about an hour police arrived and threw tear gas on the protesters. They also beat them with sticks injuring three — Tariq Pathan, Iqbal Hussain, and Jai Kumar.

Police arrested three protesters — Farooq Larik, Abdul Ghani, and Saleem Ahmed.

The injured have been admitted to the Ghari Mori hospital.

TRANSFERS AND POSTINGS: Administrative changes are taking place in Khairpur District as a result of which at least a dozen officers holding key positions have been transferred.

The district police officer, district coordination officer, executive district officer (finance), executive district officer (education), executive district officer (local government), executive engineer public health, division-I, and others have been transferred within a week.

Ahmed Bux Khokhar had been first notified to replace the DCO, Mushtaq Ahmed, but two days back a new notification was issued. Aijaz Mangi has been notified to take over as the new DCO to replace Mushtaq Ahmed Memon.

The executive district officer (education), Rafique Ahmed Siddiqui, has been relieved from the charge, but the post is still lying vacant and has not been taken over by anyone so far.

The post of the EDO (finance) is also lying vacant as Lutufullah Kalhoro had left the charge, while the post of the EDO (local government) is also vacant and no officer has been appointed after the transfer of the former EDO (local government), Farooq Ahmed Siddiqui.

The post of executive engineer, PHE, Division-I, is lying vacant as the former officer was suspended and directed to relieve the charge.

The DPO, Khairpur, Abdul Khaliq Shaikh, has been transferred to Karachi on Wednesday, while Mohammed Afzal Malik will take over as the new DPO.

Due to major reshuffling, the work at government offices in the district has been badly affected.

The DSP, Kot Diji, and the DSP, Thari Mirwah, have also been transferred, while in other departments the transfers have been made on the Taluka and union council levels also.

The district Nazim, Syeda Nafeesa Shah, the Taluka Nazims of Gambat, Kingri, and union council Nazims of the Awam Dost Panel believe that these transfers will also affect the development works in the district.

On the other hand, the Khairpur Dost Panel seems happy over the transfers as they believe that the officers were busy in pleasing the PPP Nazims.

It may be mentioned here that this kind of major reshuffling has taken place for the first time in Khairpur District.

FIVE INJURED: Five people were injured when a car headed towards Khairpur collided with a tree near Pir Jo Goth on Tuesday night.

The injured included ASI Manzoor Gilal Nazeer Gilal.

All the injured have been admitted to a hospital in Larkana.

NAZIMS HOLD MEETING: A meeting of the Nazims of the union councils of Faiz Ganj Taluka was held with the Taluka Nazim, Faiz Ganj, on Wednesday.

It unanimously demanded that the rotation system in all the waterways of Faiz Ganj Taluka be put to an end.

It also demanded an impartial inquiry regarding the bungling in the distribution of Zakat funds throughout the Taluka.
