KHAIRPUR, July 19: The villagers belonging to seven villages held a sit-in on the National Highway at Shah Ladhani and blocked the road for an hour the other day in protest against the disconnection of the power supply to their villages.
The power supply to the villages of Tunia Pul, Phulo Dino Larik, Hussain Pir, Dogar, Pir Bux, Gharhi Pathan, and Hayat Shaikh in Khairpur Taluka was disconnected two days ago.
The protesters set tyres on fire on the road as a result of which traffic was blocked.
After about an hour police arrived and threw tear gas on the protesters. They also beat them with sticks injuring three — Tariq Pathan, Iqbal Hussain, and Jai Kumar.
Police arrested three protesters — Farooq Larik, Abdul Ghani, and Saleem Ahmed.
The injured have been admitted to the Ghari Mori hospital.
