RAWALPINDI, July 20: An accountability court on Saturday adjourned the hearing of the Pakistan Steel Mills corruption reference against Asif Zardari.
The AC No. 1 judge adjourned the case on the receipt of an application by the senior defence lawyer who requested adjournment citing his illness as the reason. The lawyer had requested to adjourn the case until the end of September.
The accused had requested the court on the last date of hearing that his counsel Mohammad Anwer would appear in the court for final arguments on Saturday.
Mr Anwer stated that he had an eye operation recently and would recover completely by the end of September. The prosecution had termed the adjournment application as a delaying tactic by the defence lawyers.
The reference was filed against the accused by the Ehtesab Bureau of the PML (N) government in Ehetsab Bench of the LHC in Rawalpindi.—APP
