HARIPUR, Sept 5 One person was killed and six others, including two women, were injured when two motorcyclists opened fire on some people standing near a van stand here on Saturday.
Eyewitnesses said the motorcyclists armed with Kalashnikovs appeared from the GT Road side and started firing indiscriminately on some people standing near the Sera-i-Saleh van stand, injuring seven people.
The injured were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital, Haripur, where doctors pronounced one of them, Abdul Rasheed, son of Lal Khan, as dead.
Later, the injured, Ishtiaq Khan, Shakeel, Amanullah, Shaukat, Saima Bibi and Farhat Jabeen, were referred to the Ayub Medical Complex in Abbottabad where the condition of three was said to be critical.
Lodging a report with police, Mohammad Nazeer, a brother of deceased Abdul Rasheed, nominated Ishtiaq Khan in the murder of his brother, saying he was going to a nearby market when he saw the accused firing on his brother.
While Ishtaq Khan, one of the injured, in his FIR said he was standing at the Sera-i-Saleh stand with his relatives when two motorbike riders came and opened fire. He accused Jehangir, Riaz Khan, Arshad Khan and eight other persons of attacking him.
When approached, District Police Officer Mohammad Hussain Khan claimed that the firing was the result of an old family feud between Ishtiaq Khan and his rivals.
