ISLAMABAD Senior Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) leader Siddiq-ul-Farooq said that neither the central leadership of his party nor the nation were taken into confidence over the safe exile deal of former president Gen. (Retd) Pervez Musharraf. According to President Asif Ali Zardari the deal was arranged by international powers.

While speaking with a private TV channel, Siddiq-ul-Farooq said President Asif Ali Zardari and the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is not authorized to arrange such a deal. The PML-N will continue to raise its voice against a dictator who was responsible for breaching the constitution.

When asked about Musharrafs statement that PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif had assured Saudi King Abdullah that he wouldnt seek his trial, he said, Musharraf has lied in the past, how can we believe him in this statement.

I think King Abdullah will not take any step which is against the Supreme Court of Pakistan, he said.

We have been asking the government to restore the constitution because by taking this step we can steer the country out of its present crisis, Siddiq-ul-Farooq said.

The PML-N has been accusing Musharraf of distorting the constitution and for illegally imposed emergency on November 03, 2007. The party has been seeking his trial for high treason.

Legal experts are of the opinion that a trial of Musharraf would also involve a number of other people including politicians, army generals and judges who had supported his actions and they would also have to be held accountable. -Online
